Open Discussion About Stablewars Scoring Rules

Post by Watsuki » Wed Jan 16, 2013 11:49 pm

I've considered tweaking some of the scoring for Stablewars in the past but I think the ideas either got shot down or I just never got around to them. So I'll let you guys know what I had in mind and you guys can let me know what you think works and what doesn't. My main reasons for some changes are to try keep the scoring a little more balanced and make scoring easier to be consistent.
  • One of the biggest pains in the ass for scoring is the Finishers vs Signatures for multiple reasons. It's difficult to keep up with which move should be the finisher and which should be signature. For example, should Cena score 2 pts for doing and AA mid-match, or for locking in an STF? Same with Angle for the Ankle Lock and Angle Slam, Big Show with the Chokeslam and WMD Punch, etc... The second thing that bothers me is why should somebody gain from their finisher not being enough to win the match. I'd like to lump Finsihers and Signatures into one group, eliminate the 2 pts for executing them mid-match and give 7 points for winning the match with any of them. We already don't count the bonus in several types of matches such as battle royals and elimination matches. This would also get rid of the Domino Effect Rule which can also be tricky to apply. The bonus does add some randomness to the scoring, but in some cases the loser of the match scores almost as many points as the winner and I don't think that's very fair either.
  • Battle Royals seems to score too many points in my opinion. Sometimes there is some lame low card battle royal that last 5 minutes and the winner ends up with like 20 points. I'm thinking the Final Four bonus might be a little excessive.
  • Double Duty also ends up with some high scoring. If someone wrestles two matches they are already benefiting from that, adding another bonus on top seems to be a bit much. Especially since in many cases one of the matches only lasts like a minute or something.
  • I find the Upset Bonus a little annoying as well. Too often it seems like giving a bonus for Wrestler A beating Wrestler B doesn't make sense. Right now Alberto Del Rio is champion and him beating Dolph Ziggler would be considered an upset. At some points in the past Great Khali was in the lower midcard due to low scoring, but then beating someone like Primo would have been upset. I don't think it leads to overly high scoring, but the concept just doesn't seem proper to me.
  • Direct vs Indirect interference leaves the door open for subjective scoring. I think the two should be lumped together and be either 1 or 2 points.
I'm thinking it would be best to test out any changes on the upcoming TNA season. I'll leave the next WWE season alone so we can have the season ending at Wrestlemania with the rules we're used to, but then implement the tweaks after that. So what are your thoughts? On my suggestions and any thing else you think is worth considering? For reference, the scoring rules are here: http://www.stablewars.com/sw/wwe_scoring.shtml

I like most of your points but I disagree with the final four point bonus. Maybe it could still be a bonus depending on the number of participants (<15 ppl. no bonus, etc...).

If it helps me win, then I'm down. I'm totally down. Mark me down.

Finish/Signature thing is probably for the best. Sheamus has like 5 moves he wins with

Hitting finishers during a match always added interesting bonuses to having certain guys. Like Kurt Angle would always get you a lot of points even if he wasn't winning.

I agree with a lot of what you said, but I think rather than eliminating the scoring, just tweak it to where it's lower. Like, for example, instead of 2pts, how about 1pt for executing a finisher during a match? Then you could have the 2pts extra for winning with a finisher/sig (7 for regular matches, 9 for PPV).

For a battle royal, again maybe just dropping the point values along the way.

Everything else I agree with, especially lumping finisher/signature and direct/indirect interference together.

I'm going to make the following scoring changes for the upcoming TNA Stablewars Season 46. If they are well received I will implement in WWE Stablewars next season.

- Merging Finisher and Signature moves into one category and simply calling it Finisher Moves
- Awarding 1 pt for executing finisher mid-match (all shows). But now some wrestlers will have 2 or 3 moves they can score mid-match points on
- No change to the scores for winning with a Finisher move. It is still 9/7/5 pts

- Merging Direct/Indirect Interference into on category called Interference
- Interference will now only be 1 pt. All other interference rules remain

- Final Four in Battle Royals / Royal Rumble reduced from 7/5/3 pts to 5/3/2 pts

- Double Duty Bonus reduced from 5/3/1 pts to 3/2/1 pts

- Eliminating the Upset Bonus altogether

As a result of merging the Signatures and Finishers I've modified the Finisher List page to just have the one category. While we're on the topic, if anybody feels like looking over the list and letting me know of any errors or omissions it would be very helpful. I'm sure I'm missing some, because I have no finisher for some people that I'm sure have plenty of wins.

He's still on the roster page on their website, but I know they don't always keep it totally up-to-date. He hasn't scored any points in a few seasons I believe, so maybe he is gone.

He got injured, returned, then got injured again. I think he's still with them

They'll probably bring him back when we least suspect it.

Then he'll get injured again.
